ONCE UPON THE TIME ...

There was little Jaromil. He walked through the woods one day and saw a beautiful bird sitting on a branch. "I'll catch you," he thought. But the bird flew into a hole in a rock. Jaromil followed him and found himself in a huge garden of indescribable beauty. Small figures cared for the flowers and trees and one of them said to Jaromil, "I am Narcissa, the king's daughter." She showed him the garden, introduced him to the king and queen in the ivory castle, showed him the stream with water fairies and the hall filled with fire. Jaromil took something from each place: a shell, a phial and a golden pit. The fairies told him they would come to his aid when he needed it. When Jaromil returned to the world, he found that he had grown; ten years have passed since he discovered the underground kingdom! He went to the capital city and found out that princess Boleslava was very sick, blind and mute. He pitied the girl and asked old gardener how to help her. "The sage said to us, 'From the stream of silver she shall receive the purity of the flesh, and from the living fire she shall receive sight, and from the apple of the talking tree she shall speak. ' But who has ever seen those?" old man told him. Jaromil went to the king and told him that he can heal the princess. King was surprised, but agreed, "All right, Jaromil, if you heal her, this whole kingdom will be yours." Jaromil took Boleslava to the garden. He took a shell from his pocket and a water fairy appeared. "Please help me heal the princess!" he told her. The fairy took the girl to a miraculous stream. When they returned, the princess shone with health and beauty. Jaromil then opened the phial from which the fire fairy emerged. "Please help me heal the princess!" he urged, and she placed a flaming finger on the princess's eyes. Sparks suddenly lit up in them. Princess wanted to thank Jaromil, but she didn't have a voice yet. Jaromil finally summoned Narcissa and asked her to return the girl's voice. She plucked an apple from a tree and said, "This will heal your beloved." Boleslava ate it and shouted, "Jaromil! You saved me!" Jaromil was afraid that the king would not keep his promise, but he was full of happiness when he saw his daughter. He offered Jaromil her hand and the whole kingdom and Jaromil and Boleslava lived happily ever after.

Based on a fairy tale by Božena Němcová

VERONIKA ZACHAROVA, AUTHOR OF THE ILLUSTRATION

VERONIKA ABOUT HERSELF

"I spent my childhood years in Prostějov, but I moved into Uherské Hradiště, Brno and Zlín during my student years. After studying graphic design and techniques, I turned to animated movies and illustration. I am currently balancing these two as a freelance designer in Prague.

‚How Jaromil found happiness‘ is the second motif I created for the Silky Gang brand. The fairy tale left a feeling of fragrant psychedelia in my head after I read it. At first I tried to get as many specific references to the story as possible in the illustration, but later I limited the motif to the most important thing – a vigorous, colorful garden, full of flowers and butterflies. Magical fairies that Jaromil met dance among them. So many drafts were created in search of perfect design that Martina desided to create two different versions of the illustration, each for a different size of scarf. The story thus moves from one to the other.

MARTINA ABOUT VERONIKA

"I was delighted that Veronika agreed to illustrate the new motif for another collection of Silky Gang scarves. I love her style of illustration and the fact that she already understood which artistic concept on the scarf would be the best after her first design for SG - Sleeping Beauty. I have loved the fairy tale ‚How Jaromil found happiness‘ by Božena Němcová since I was little. From fairly long story, I picked the motif of the underground kingdom and flower fairies. This time I chose the basic pastel colors, but still rich, reminiscent of popular macaroons. Veronika created truly a lot of designs, at first in a simpler graphic style. They were beautiful, but when she sent me a sketch of fairies dancing with wild abandon, I knew it was a clear winner. It reminded me of famous painting "La Dance" by Henri Matisse, where the characters dance in a circle, I saw the same energy that will seize you when you look at it. Veronika once again proved that she is a master of composition even on such a large format as the Silky Gang scarf. And yet, at the same time, she can put a lot of amazing fine details into the motif.

This time, the resulting design was not created with such ease as the first one, but I am excited that such a beautiful piece became part of the SG gallery."
