ONCE UPON THE TIME ...

Princess Snow White lived with her father and stepmother . The stepmother had a magic mirror and she asked it every day, "Who is the fairest of them all?" And the mirror always replied, "You, my lady." But one day the mirror replied, "Snow White, my lady." This angered the evil stepmother. She told a hunter to take Snow White into the dark forest, kill her, and bring back to her her heart. The hunter went to do so, but he felt pity for the poor girl. He let her escape and, instead of her heart, brought back a heart of the deer he had caught. Snow White ran through the forest, stumbling and terrified. But suddenly she saw a light in the distance! Cottage! "Is anyone home?" She knocked on the door, but no one answered. She went inside and found a huge mess and seven small beds. She decided to clean up. Maybe they wouldn’t mind I slept here if I cleaned, she thought. But she grew tired and soon fell asleep. At that time, seven dwarves were returning home from work in the mine. When they saw the tidy cottage, they were stunned! But the girl inside surprised them even more. "Who are you?" they woke her. Snow White was startled, but then she told them what had happened to her. Dwarves felt sorry for her, so they offered her to stay with them. And so they became friends.

The queen in the castle once again approached the mirror. "Who is the fairest of them all?" she asked. "Snow White," the mirror replied. She knew at once that the hunter had deceived her. Disguised as an old woman, she followed the footsteps of Snow White to the cottage when the dwarves were gone. Girl opened the door for the old woman, let her sit inside, even accepted an apple from her, red as her lips. But as soon as she took a bite, everything went black and she fell on the floor. The evil stepmother rejoiced that she got finally rid of her. The dwarves were horrified when they returned home and found the poor girl. They thought she was dead. They placed her in a glass coffin and mourned her for many days. But one day a prince came, drawn to Snow White’s beauty. He approached her and kissed her gently on the lips. He broke the curse and Snow White woke up. The prince, Snow White, and the dwarves rejoiced greatly and went to the prince's kingdom, where they lived happily ever after.

Based on a fairy tale by brother´s Grimm

MARTINA SVĚTLÍKOVÁ AKA FISHMEISTERR, AUTHOR OF THE ILLUSTRATION

MARTINA ABOUT HERSELF

After studying classical oil painting, I began to focus more on illustration and it grew into my true passion. Since then, I have completed several illustrated books and covers, including the book Divočina: Povídky pro DUHU, which won the Top Talent award from the Adobe Design Achievement Awards 2019 in the illustration category. I draw regularly for the newspaper Právo and their magazine Salon, and I'm happy when I get to work on unusual projects. I always try to add energy, juicy colors and textures to my illustrations. I draw only digitally, so I spent most of my time bent at the computer. To compensate, I like to do yoga or travel around the Czech Republic and Europe, where I get my inspiration from. It also comes in the form of tales and short stories, which is what immediately drew me towards Silky Gang project. It combines two things that I really love - fashion and fairy tales. Snow White was probably the first to tale to cross Martina’s and my mind and it really excited me, because she was my favorite princess as a child and according to Martina I even look a lot like Snow White. On the scarf, we focused on motifs of the magic mirror that reflect different events in the story. Each section is dedicated to one of the main characters, surrounded by artifacts from the story. Snow White has a cottage with dwarves, the evil queen has her castle. The hunter is presenting the heart of Snow White in a decorative vessel, and the Prince has just found Snow White and is about to kiss her. The whole scene is covered with apples symbolizing Snow White and with gems symbolizing the dwarves and their work in the mine.

MARTINA ABOUT MARTINA

Collaboration with Martina sailed on a smooth silk wool. We agreed on the axially symmetrical mirror composition and colors of scarf. When I wanted to add some details after the first test prints on silk, Martina immediately adjusted everything and came up with her own ideas. Perhaps thanks to the fact that Martina and Marek are partners in their personal lives, the work on illustrating Snow White and Alice in Wonderland has taken on another dimension. Both authors hacked and supported each other in a healthy way. I like that the motif of Snow White is not so obvious at first glance. You have to think a little bit about what is actually shown on the scarf and there are other hiding places that you gradually discover.
