One Thousand and One Nights
In ancient times, Persia was ruled by the wise and powerful King Shahryar. However, after being betrayed by his wife, he became a man full of bitterness and distrust. Convinced that no woman was faithful, he adopted a cruel custom—every day he took a new bride and had her executed in the morning to avoid further humiliation. The kingdom fell into fear and sadness until Scheherazade, the daughter of the royal vizier, stepped up. She was not only beautiful, but also educated, wise and courageous. Despite her father's pleas, she insisted on marrying the king. She had a plan to end his cruel reign. On the first night after the wedding, Scheherazade began to tell a captivating story. However, before dawn, she stopped at the most suspenseful moment and promised to continue the next evening. The king, fascinated by the story, postponed the execution to find out what happened. The next night, Scheherazade finished the story—but immediately began a new one, again interrupted at the moment when curiosity made it impossible to stop listening. And so the days and nights passed. Scheherazade wove her tales of adventure, mystery and magic. She told of brave sailors, clever merchants, beautiful princesses, cunning thieves, terrifying monsters, and powerful genies who granted wishes and punished evil. She spoke of Sinbad the Sailor's journeys full of danger and treasure, of the story of Aladdin and the magic lamp, and of the cunning Ali Baba, who discovered the secret hideout of forty thives and opened it with the magic words "Open sesame!" These stories often intertwined, some hiding further twists and turns. And so a thousand and one nights passed. Shahryar, transformed by her kindness, wisdom and patient storytelling, realized that he had found a woman he could trust. His heart opened again and he made Scheherazade his one and only beloved queen. The people of the empire celebrated the end of fear and the beginning of just rule. And the stories that Scheherazade told became a treasure passed down from generation to generation.

Who doesn't know the Tales of 1000+1 Nights. Stories about Sinbad, Aladdin's magic lamp, Alibaba and the forty robbers that the beautiful and wise Scheherazade tells her sultan every night. This motif could not be missing from the Silky Gang brand portfolio. I once again invited illustrator and graphic designer Dominika Režová to collaborate with me, with whom I have collaborated several times within our brand. For the scarves, I chose the color scheme of an oasis in the desert in the glow of the setting sun. Shades of royal blue, purple and raspberry, as well as sand with a touch of warm orange. The aesthetics of the motif are based on the arcade computer game "Prince of Persia", popular in the nineties. The main scarf motif is a view of an oriental city full of alleys and nooks, where you can find some of the famous characters from the stories of 1000+1 Nights. The second scarf motif takes place in the palace itself, where the Sultan listens to Scheherazade's stories. The scarf's photo campaign is inspired by Wes Anderson's film The Grand Budapest Hotel. Scheherazade works here during the day as a lobby boy and bartender, becoming a silent observer of the stories that she tells the Sultan in the evening, when she transforms into a "femme fatale". The collection also includes a set of jewelry with semi-precious stones and minerals that evoke the opulence and beauty of oriental designs, but in a modern way.

The collaboration with Martina went very smoothly this time too. The assignment and the color palette were clear. It took a while to find the right direction for simplifying the opulent oriental patterns and the way to connect the scarf pattern City and Palace. In the labyrinth of city streets, the observer discovers artifacts and characters from the stories of 1000+1 Nights, while in the palace the main motif is the love between the Sultan and Scheherazade. The pattern changes with wear, just like the landscape in the desert in the glow of the setting sun.
I am a product design graduate from the Faculty of Architecture in Bratislava. However, I have always been more interested in illustrations, art and advertising. That is why I moved to Prague after my studies, where I currently work as a freelance illustrator for several brands and agencies. In addition to illustrating, I also work as an art director at the Leo Burnett advertising agency.
