SILK SCARVES, DESIGNER JEWELRY HANDBAGS AND COLLARS ROBOTARIUM COLLECTION
ROBOTARIUM
Bam / Bam da / Bam da rut / Bam da rut vrum
Toothy wheelies / In the trunk of the same teeth / Zili sili zum / Heading south for winter
A spring, broom in hand / Singing in the filing box of solipsism / And a choir of engines, pistons / Distilling firefly from dream
Men enriched by heavy elements / Although more slick / And perhaps left-situated / Ankles, evolution’s fail
All according to their diagrams / Rolling, groaning, fogging / Zili sili zum / Sparkles in wires
And in evening’s innards / There’s click click click / Of superhuman mechanism / That bottomless creature
Bam da rut vrum / Bam da rut / Bam da / Bam
verses Jakub Chodil
Robotarium is a collection of scarves, jewelry and accessories, inspired by the world of mechanics, robotics and artificial intelligence. The metal parts in the scarf illustration materialize in the designs of original jewelry, handbags and collars. They symbolize robotic parts that come to life when worn on the human body. Robotarium is a search for beauty where others see only inanimate mechanical parts. Luxurious materials such as silk twill, Italian lamb, Japanese denim, gold-plated or platinum-plated components create a unique background for the subject, referring to our near future.
AUTHORS OF THEME AND DESIGNER OF JEWELRY AND ACCESSORIES
MARTINA KARAFIÁTOVÁ
founder of the brand Silky Gang
I first met Viktor five years ago. He was one of the three illustrators I first approached when I started Silky Gang. I continue to enjoy his work, it's nice to see how it has evolved over the years. I‘ve had the concept of Robotarium in my head for about two years. The topic of artificial intelligence, android robots, the questions of whether the fascination with this industry would really benefit us. At the same time, a look at this topic with a certain playfulness and enthusiasm of a scientist – a discoverer. I composed individual ideas and colours until the whole collection gradually took on a solid shape. In this case, the choice of illustrator was clear. I wanted Victor‘s comic book concept of illustration, his clear black line and unmistakable handwriting on the scarf. This time, however, I made it a little harder for him because I put more limitations on his work. The main requirement was to include the metal parts into the pattern, which also appear in my jewelry collection that complements Robotarium. But he did a great job. At first glance, the design composed of nuts, bolts, springs and metal parts forms a complete lace pattern. It is only on closer inspection that you realise what it‘s actually made of. That‘s what I love about the whole collection, discovering beauty where you wouldn‘t expect it. Jakub Chodil‘s Dada-style verses further illustrate how much everyone involved really enjoyed working on the scarf pattern and photoshooting the campaign.
VIKTOR SVOBODA - illustrator
Robotarium is two workbenches, side by side. From the hundreds of parts lying around, someone has put together something more, two tiny robots.
This time, I figured out the mechanical motif I was given by Martina as a task rather irregularly. Unlike Otesánek (the previous motif), we chose a composition that appears symmetrical but is not entirely. There is a slight variation and hopefully a little life in it because of that. A little spark. And one such spark is hiding inside the metallic figures, which burst into motion as soon as the spark decides to jump out. I studied animation at Tomas Bata University in Zlín. I finished my studies with project of a cartoon film Episode 11, where the main characters lead an endless battle against evil robots. After that I moved back to Prague, where I spend most of my time drawing storyboards for films and commercials, interspersed with illustrating (short stories in Forbes NEXT, children‘s books and textbooks, video games) and drawing comics. Last year‘s comic Supro: Heroes on Loan is my first major comic book publication. (I created it together with screenwriter Štěpánka Jislová and colorist Martina Fischmeister, who is also a member of the Silky Gang and the creator of the Snow White scarf.) You can also see my pictures in the series Mr. M.'s Secret, which was made for ČT :D, with a sequel in the works.
In my spare time I like to draw with a brush without sketching and let myself be surprised by what comes out.
