ONCE UPON THE TIME ...
There once was a small boy named Smolíček. He lived with a stag, who was taking care of him. Whenever the stag went to the pasture, he warned Smolíček not to open the door to anyone. Once, when the stag was away and Smolíček stayed alone at home, he heard pleasant voices coming from behind the door: "Smolíček, dear child, please open the door, let us just warm up a little and we shall be on our way." Smolíček did not open. When the stag returned, Smolíček told him everything. The stag said: "It's a good thing that you did not let them in. Those were evil witches, they would kidnap you into their cave . Never open the door to them! "
The next day, when the stag was again out in the pasture, the voices returned: "Smolíček, dear child, please open the door, let us just warm up a little and we shall be on our way. " Smolíček resisted their pleas, but they begged him for so long that Smolíček eventually allowed them to put two fingers inside the room. Oh, he shouldn’t have done that! Witches slammed the door open, took Smolíček and away they ran. Smolíček desperately called out: "Over the mountains, over the mines, my golden antlers, where are they grazing? Witches are carrying Smolíček away! " Luckily, the stag was near, so he heard his cry for help. He rushed to his aid, took him from evil witches and carried him back to the cottage. There was peace for a while. In few days, witches appeared again, they wooed Smolíček with their lovely voices: "Smolíček, dear child, please open the door, let us just warm up a little and we shall be on our way."
Smolíček resisted for a long time, but witches managed to convince him even now. They took him between them and ran away with him. Smolíček again desperately called for the stag: "Over the mountains, over the mines, my golden antlers, where are they grazing? Witches are carrying Smolíček away! " But this time the stag was far away, he couldn’t hear the call. Witches locked Smolíček in a tiny closet and began fattening him up. They wanted him big and juicy as fast as possible, so they could roast him and eat him.
When he was fat enough, they took him and carried him towards the oven. Suddenly, Smolíček tried to call the stag one last time: "Over the mountains, over the mines, my golden antlers, where are they grazing? Witches are carrying Smolíček away! "
Fortunately, stag heard him, rushed over there, saved him from evil witches and took him back home. He berated Smolíček very harshly for what he had done. Since then, Smolíček never opened the door for evil witches again.

KATEŘINA ČUPOVÁ, AUTHOR OF ILLUSTRATION
KATEŘINA ABOUT HERSELF
"I studied graphic design at high school in Ostrava and animation at UTB in Zlín. I finished my bachelor degree by producing a short movie spring, by colouring crayons and I finished my master studies by producing a fairy tale movie ‚About Kovlad‘. On top of animation I make illustrations and comics. I like to try and combine classical and digital drawings, in recent times I started preferring drawing on paper with watercolours or coloured ink. But to create the design of ‚Seven ravens‘, I chose to utilize only digital drawing, because it works better in print and it is also easier to edit during development. The design of ‚About Smolíček Pacholíček‘ scarf went through similar process. During my free time, I enjoy riding my bike across mountains, reading anything I get my hands on, riding a train or staring out a window. Several of my comics were published in Aarrgh! Magazine (issues no. 15, 16, 17, 18). The ‚Silky gang‘ project is definitely interesting, I can’t wait to see the scarves by other artists."
MARTINA ABOUT KATEŘINA
"For me, Katka is someone who got ‚a gift from the Heaven above‘, someone who gets better and better with constant work. Excellent artist, her sketches of people and animals are by themselves perfect. She reminds me of my favorite artist, Cyril Bouda, in certain aspects. Maybe it’s that clear, light, yet solid line. Working with her on ‚Seven ravens‘ design was full of surprises. I was swept away by sophisticated details and patterns, as she was gradually sending me more and more interphases of her draft. Hers is one of those where you keep discovering the scale of its perfection more every time you look at it. That’s why it’s better to wear it more spreaded on your clothing, to highlight it more. Colourwise, we chose a combination of dark blue – the ravens‘ feathers, white – boys‘ shirts and red – a symbol of sisterly, motherly and partners‘ love. We purposely decided to avoid use of grey and black colours, since we wanted to emphasize positive mood of this powerful story. Kateřina also worked on the design of ‚About Smolíček Pacholíček‘ for Silky gang collection."
